RAGBRAI Day 1 2008

We are sitting in Harlan eating a grilled hamburger and vegetables. YUM! It was a great day on the route as we passed through many towns and saw more bikers than you could ever imagine. We started in Missouri Valley about 10:40 am and had a very hilly ride to Harlan. Max speed was 40.3 (Steph) 40.2 (Don). We tagged along with Team Dawg that was all decked out with a stereo system and made for a great ride. Along the way we took the opportunity for many photo ops which I will have to post later. We love the camper and our sherpa is awesome! However, we have a generator that would only cool a room the size of a bee hive so we are hot and sticky. Right now it is cooler outside than it is inside. :) But that is OK, as we laugh and talk about the day.

After a light lunch, drinks to cool us off and a brief nap we strolled on our bikes (I do not recommend wearing jean shorts and flip flops when you ride) to the fairgrounds where all the vendors were located. Don now has a new pair of white sunglasses with interchangeable lenses, a corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn....shirt and a skin tight RAGBRAI jersey to match his loin cloth. LOL

I will download some pics tomorrow so you can see the fun we are having. Wish you all were here! We are plotting RAGBRAI 2009 so mark off the last full week in July - no excuses allowed!!!!
