My 2 yr contract is up [actually it's been 3] with one of those monopolizing wireless phone carriers [Alltel] and I'm looking at upgrading my phone. I've narrowed it down to the Blackberry Pearl 8130 ~ $49 {red - on the right} or the Blackberry Curve ~ $99 {red - on the left}.
Anybody have any advice on either phone? I need to decide by midnight tomorrow [November 24] because they are running a "no activation fee" so that's $25 I can spend on running stuff. :D Run on!
Thanks peeps, your awesome! Have a great Monday.

Omg. DO NOT get the Blackberry Pearl. I've had the Pearl for the past year and it's been nothing but trouble. First and most importantly, it's got this software issue called the "memory leak". You should Google it. It's bad. As soon as you go low on memory (when you fill up with emails, texts & etc) , it will start deleting all emails, texts and call logs. And you won't get a thing through! It just freezes up. I just uploaded their new software (like they told me to) and now none of my applications are working including Google Maps and Facebook. Oh and earlier this year, the wireless signal kept turning off and Verizon sent me a new phone. UGH. I am on my 3rd Pearl so far this year and well, I am not a happy camper. I tried to get out of my contract with Verizon without the early termination fee and they are now sending me the Curve for free because they know the Pearl stinks. Just my two cents!! I was actually hoping to go with the iPhone but I can't get out of my contract right now...
Isn't there a new generation Blackberry? I know a friend of mine got the Pearl because she liked the qwerty keyboard, but after reading Julianne's comment, I don't know what to tell you.
Good luck.
I just got a Blackberry Bold last Wednesday. I have not used it very much since, but so far it seems pretty good.
I have been using the Pearl for a couple/few years now and love it. Have never had any of the problems that Julianne is talking about but I'm with Rogers wireless so it might make a difference. I would like to have the larger screen of he Curve but will make due too not have to carry around a larger unit.. *snicker* ummm where was I.. ah yes.. But I also don't carry around a peruse. Don't worry about the keyboard (having more then one letter per key) it uses this "sure type" that makes very quick and easy work of typing on it.
cheers
sorry, i don't have advice on this - but I did get myself a phone upgrade through ebay that was quite a good deal and avoided renewing a contract (i hated being tied in for 2 yrs) so now i'm month to month. yay
iPhone.
:)
I love my iPhone...but if that's not an option, hubby has a Curve and he completely thrashes on it...And it survives. That's a good recommendation.
My next phone is going to have GPS on it...maybe I can carry less gear that way.
My BF has the pearl and he likes it ok, no major problems. If you get Curve I think you have to sign up for a data package which is extra money but with the pearl you dont. Not sure though but its something like that! Good luck!
I have the Curve and it works well for me. My friend Jill has the pearl and she has that memory leak thing that Julianne was talking about. She can't read my texts half the time.
I'm still in the dark ages when it comes to cell phones with my little Samsung, so I'm afraid I can't help much. I like mine as small as possible, but I don't do much text messaging either.
I totally 'puffy heart' your
blog(s). Thanks for following my blog, I want to do the same.
The curve is only better if you write a lot of emails or generally find yourself typing a lot. That's why I have it.... I had the Pearl before and it was great too but I got tired of typing on the miniature keyboard.
Both phones are pretty sexy. I like the Pearl. :o)
CURVE or if you have the chance BOLD!
